Spain and Netherlands were where the fortune was at, since they included the Americas and South East Asia. He lost these. He also lost Hungary to the Ottomans, allowed the christian holy wars, lost the pope (by burning Rome), and so on.

The Austrians lucked out with the inheritance of Castile. It is one of the few things that they did right as Castile was probably the most powerful kingdom in Europe with France
