Corn + beans gives you all the protein you need. They also had amaranth and chia, wich are high on protein. They also domesticated turkeys (guajolotes), hunted deer and rabbits and ate specially bred dogs as well. Then they also had fishing, and many many tropical fruits like avocadoes, mamey, zapote. Plus they ate bugs as well, like escamoles and chapulines.
