What is /his/'s opinion of Manuel Komnenos? On one hand we was a very talented military commander and leader, but he comes across as schizophrenic in his goals, trying to retake southern Italy, Egypt and Asia Minor but not committing or focusing on any one thing (that and having shitty allies). Whats your take on his Legacy, considering it was pretty much all downhill after his death due in part to said military adventures.

I think he was a great commander but didn't focus his priorities. Italy was pretty much a lost cause and protecting from the eastern hordes was far more important. I wonder what could have been

Indeed, In the end alot of what happened to the empire had much more to do with the rulers after Manuel then anything he did. The Komnenian system needed a strong leader, and unfortunately they didn't have that.
