Why were aborigines the only race with aerodynamic knowledge advanced enough to construct a returning flying weapon while the rest of the world had to make do with bows and arrows?
>>
>>2469574
What's your point?
>>
>>2469603
Because it doesn't actually return to you, and is inconvenient compared to bows and javelins. Indian throwing rings, or that African dick tomahawk are infinitely superior to the Aboriginal bent stick.

>Though traditionally thought of as Australian, boomerangs are also found in ancient Europe, Egypt, and North America. Hunting sticks discovered in Europe, seem to have formed part of the Stone Age arsenal of weapons.[13] One boomerang that was discovered in Jaskinia Obłazowa in the Carpathian Mountains in Poland was made of mammoth's tusk and is believed, based on AMS dating of objects found with it, to be about 30,000 years old.[14][15] In the Netherlands, boomerangs have been found in Vlaardingen and Velsen from the first century BC. King Tutankhamen, the famous Pharaoh of ancient Egypt, who died over 3,300 years ago, owned a collection of boomerangs of both the straight flying (hunting) and returning variety.

yeah what are you gonna kill with a string tied to a stick, birds? megafauna hunters had better shit. proof is the acute lack of megafauna left wandering around north america and eurasia.

>>2469603
straight-flying throwing sticks are actually super nasty and can kill kangaroos or people. it's hard to find good demonstrations of them, since the abbos long lost most of their actual traditions in favor of sitting around huffing gasoline.

>>
Boomerangs aren't weapons, they're toys. How the fuck are you supposed to hit something with a boomerang?
>>
>>2474075
You practice
>>
>>2469570

I once heard that the boomerang wasn't intended to return to the thrower, but to arch up into the sky so you could throw it at a flock of birds and hit them as they attempt to fly away.
>>
>>2471265
>Because it doesn't actually return to you,

It does though. You have to throw it based on how the wind is blowing.
>>
>>2474020
>yeah what are you gonna kill with a string tied to a stick, birds?

This is probably bait, but arrows can definitely kill big game, and obviously humans.

>straight-flying throwing sticks are actually super nasty and can kill kangaroos or people.

What the fuck do you think an arrow is? A straight flying stick flying much faster than you can throw it.
>>
>>2474020

Birds are especially hard to hit and kill with arrows. The abo battle sticks were perfectly adapted to the fauna and terrain. Bows and arrows would have been useless against fast, hardy animals like kangaroos, monitors and emus on the open plains. A stick makes for broken legs, ribs, necks, plus the impact shock value, giving hunters time to:
a) run up to it and bonk it on the head
b) throw more sticks with more accuracy, at a now stationary target.
Comparing this with an arrow wound, which does cause bleeding but less shock and slowdown, you can see that sticks were the right choice.

>>2474020

Also, emus are even harder to kill than regular birds. Massive culling was attempted using military personnel and two truck mounted modern machine guns, during the "emu wars". They failed miserably. The best way to kill emus is with high power hollow point hunting ammunition or, you guessed it, by throwing sticks at their legs and necks. Bows would have been next to useless.

Most boomerangs and certainly all European examples of boomerangs were non-returning. You're wanking off over curved throwing sticks that were objectively inferior to the aborigines'.

ignorance. >>2474225 covered it pretty well, but yeah bows and arrows were not adapted for hunting large game without some form of additional hunting power, such as a mount or poison. atlatls and straight-flying throwing sticks were generally much preferred where large game was a subsistence. atlatls deliver much more power than a bow and arrow, it's simply overkill for smaller game and takes much more practice to learn to use properly than a bow, similar to how a crossbow is easier to learn to use than a bow.

>A straight flying stick flying much faster than you can throw it.
yeah prick a kangaroo with a twig or break it's neck with a flying, spinning club, your choice.

The weapon, thrown at 20 or 30 yards [18 or 27 m] distance, twirled round in the air with astonishing velocity, and alighting on the right arm of one of his opponents, actually rebounded to a distance not less than 70 or 80 yards [64 or 73 m], leaving a horrible contusion behind, and exciting universal admiration."

No shit, asshole, and using sticks to take down medium sized game, like roo's, is just another example of the bullshit people believed before photographic evidence could confirm or deny said bullshit.

they stopped using them along with almost everything else after whites came to australia. there aren't any videos of aboriginals doing anything in-tact of their original culture. just shadows and tourist attractions.
>>
>>2477136
so the mountains of eyewitness accounts of them using them in combat and for hunting were all lies, and a contemporary account of an anonymous user on 4chan who doesn't understand a big stick can break bones holds more merit?
>>
The longest thrown object of any kind was a boomerang 427 meters.

From where and from whom? Dumb ass white people, like you, that just ASSUMED they used them for hunting medium sized game instead of small game and birds?

Not with a light weight boomerang but one of those heavy throwing sticks is perfectly capable of killing a kangaroo with a head shot or breaking a limb, after which the abbo just follows it and kills it with a spear.

Years back when I was in Boy Scouts, were doing a one-week service outing on Mackinaw Island, where I had bought a cheepo plywood souvenir boomerang and was goofing around with it out in front of the Boy Scouts Barracks with some buddies, when an Australian tourist came up and told us about abbos and boomerangs and such.

He was able to throw this shitty dime-store boomerang a good 100 yards and have it skim along only 2”-3” off the ground, (which would have worked nicely for hunting small critters) where it would then swoop up in the air and come looping back to us (more or less).
