the french who were evacuated almost entirely surrendered to the germans upon returning to france, the british when they returned, returned in numbers and kept their promise to fight until france was freed

Omaha was nasty, Utah probably the easiest of the beaches, certainly proved no more difficult than any of the anglocanadian beaches.

Omaha on the other hand was a bit of a bastard, selected primarily because a link between Utah and the other landings was needed, it was also the landing that suffered most from mischance and questionable command decisions.
