Let's have a good history thread. From your readings in history would you say that war has been a net positive or negative for humans. Or to make it less antagonistic what are good and bad parts of war from a historical perspective.

For example it has been shown that wars in general tend to promote social equality. Especially as thearly scale of the war increases. This in part because to get the poorer people to fight you must give them things and these things come from the rich who actually have stuff.
Hear me out for a second. War is awful, but I still think of it as a net positive, in the long-term at least. Nothing drives the development of science and technology as much as warfare does. World War I is a pretty good example of this. It started with cavalry and ended with tanks and aircraft.
