What is the greatest lie in history, if not this?

popular opinion you got there
That Judaism was distinct and radically unique from all other religions in the Roman Empire.
Sure they had scripture and sabbath, but they also had animal sacrifice that could only be performed in one special temple on certain days in a set variety of ways that had to be accompanied by prescribed rituals, chants, and dances for it to work.
Sure they also had monotheism, but if we take Plato and the followers of Plotinus, monotheism was not something inconceivable for the pagans. And if the Bible is true, the Jews often failed in their monotheism by incorporating foreign gods into their worship (thus demanding a prophet be sent to put them back on track).
It was unique, but unique just like every other snowflake out there.

The idea that people believed the earth was flat until Columbus proved it wasn't.
It's crazy how such a baseless idea came to be so widely believed, especially when one of the most famous texts of the period (the Divine Comedy) clearly shows that wasn't the case.
