I'm a history graduate student taking a class in my university's PHD program - which is for English students, but a history professor is teaching this class on intersectional issues and technology - and all of them are hardcore Foucault spouting postmodernists. I've read a good deal of Foucault and while I didn't like him, I think people influenced by him are often pretty important - Said's Orientalism, for instance, is what I would regard as a productive use of postmodern reasoning.

These people are absolutely bonkers though. They're all obsessed exclusively with their sexuality and racial issues, to the degree that most of them are doing their dissertation on things like "Violent speech and black feminism on Twitter", and their inability to process sources that don't share the same nihilistic premises as Foucault-style interpretations of social issues is profoundly disturbing to me. All of them believe that any good english or history paper must have a "call to action" or activist contribution - the notion of neutral scholarship is totally anathema to them.

I should add that by 4chan standards I'm an SJW myself. Philosophically, I'm a left-wing socialist, and what disturbs me the most about these people is that they tend to identify as anticapitalist but situate all of their work within parameters that basically accept capitalism and commodification as inevitable phenomena worthy of isolated examination, but capitalism itself is just a bad thing they don't like, but there's no specific reasoning for their anticapitalist sentiments besides having been told before that capitalism is bad because neoliberalism.
