I emailed him once asking him question about his meme book on Jesus. I basically asked him by his thesis had already been outdated by books by Ehrman Fredrickson and White in the 90s and he responded but in a tricky rhetorical way and didn't really asnwer teh question.

I was pleased he responded at all though desu.

Sorry anon you'll have to take my word for it, this was in undergrad and I lost access to that email account last year.

He took like 6 months to respond interestingly enough. I emailed him on a whim and logged in to my UG email a year later looking for a biochemistry lecture and saw Reza Aslan had emailed me.

So he will go down in my book as a nice guy but not really an intelligent one. Being a muslim and anti-christian got him as far as he is in his career and not his brain or writing.

he isn't actually a historian in any credible sense. His only PhD is in sociology (of religion, as he likes to claim, even though this has been debunked by his own alma mater)
