rapier and the other thrusting swords like sideswords and estocs are basically the best sword by almost any metric, why are they considered effeminate or weak and used mostly by women in media and entertainment?
sideswords are cut and thrust swords
rapiers can cut and thrust, but are more specialized for thrusting
estocs have a triangular cross section and are basically like smaller lances...they cannot cut
rapiers are not the best swords by almost any metric, but they were very good for unarmored duels

if it is armored fighting, why use a sword anyhow? i suppose this is where the estoc/tuck shines brightest.

The sword is a side arm, dueling is one use
Warfare is choatic, when the attack comes you may only be partially armed and armored, you may be armed with a bow or gun as your primary, spear shafts and the like can break, and often did.

Mordhau and half swording can be applied with the longsword
