Should we protect regional languages or is that just a waste of money?

Literally anything other than Esperanto is fascist.

Cultural barriers would be easier to break down and intergration would be easier over all. That's just an idea though, if you're one of those guys that shouts "cultural Marxism" when a white girl dates a black guy, then that's obviously not in your best interest.

Linguistic homogeny is a catalyst for cultural homogeny. the last thing humanity should do it further degrade the socio-ecological world we depend on in order to persist.
