I used to be an anarchist, but a communal (not communist) anarchist, because anarchism won't work on a global scale. Most people in the world don't want anarchy, so it would only work in a small community.

However, the anarchist movement is full of communists and quite frankly downright losers, lazy people, and drug addicts. If someone were to start a commune it would fail because of the shit it would attract. Dropped the ideology because it's not functional.

Yes, the state has and uses the power to do wrong to their society. Yet, as I already said, I'd rather deal with the evils of a Western government than the struggle of not having a government at all.

It would be nice if everyone would simply cooperate in tight-knit little communes without any hierarchy, but inevitably the need for centralized organization would form states.

Social organization exists to improve the functional survival of the tribe's constituents as a whole. One of the basic methods of improving longevity of a tribe is to cast out or eliminate misfits, especially violent ones. How can a non-violent tribe deal with a sociopath in their midst without using oppressive force?

Anarchism is an ideology that is appealing to both of these people, and it shows, because whenever anarchists congregate in large numbers, property is destroyed and people are hurt.
