I'm a poor uni student really interested in starting HEMA any advice.
also HEMA thread?
Shameless self bump
I really need to get back into it, had been doing German longsword and messer for about a year before a back injury and now I've got super fat
You do need to be reasonably athletic to be any good at it, but it's mostly about quick reaction times

Are there any HEMA clubs near you? Most clubs run a beginner's course sometime during the summer

If you want to LARP at least do something with some class like fencing

>Im in Australia so idk. ive looked but there doesnt seem to be one.
There are several HEMA clubs in Australia, hell there are even pioneers of the discipline (Stephen Hand and Paul Wagner of the Stoccata) out there. Mostly in the cities I'd reckon...
It might not be your gig but there is also a couple of legit japanese traditionnal martial arts instructors as well, in Melbourne at least (that would be Liam Keeley).

oh yeah, toda ha boku ryu is pretty amazing. Tatsumi ryu is interesting too, as a large variety of swords and grappling.

I wish more of the people who commented on weapons on /his/ actually trained with them rather than spouting meme stuff they picked up off video games and 4chan
those HEMA videos are cringeworthy
if they would stop dressing like dungeons and dragons and dress like a normal fencers people would take them more seriously.

>those HEMA videos are cringeworthy
What videos exactly? Most of the videos of HEMA I've seen they are dressed like fencers but with more protections and in black.
