For example Shirer points to Hitler's speech in the Riechstag in reply to Roosevelt on April 28th 1939 as evidence that Hitler never intended a diplomatic solution to the Danzig Crisis.

Roosevelt had sent a telegram asking Hitler if he had intentions to attack any of a long list of countrys in Europe and abroad. Hitler responded by reaching out to every government in Roosevelt's list asking if they felt threatened in anyway by Germany, they all responded in the negative.

Shirer than points out ominously, Hitler listed every country in Roosevelt's telegram, with the exception of Poland.

Well I happened to watch that speech this evening. And sure enough:

He names Poland and Shirer had lied and to my knowledge nobody has bothered to check and correct it despite this book being the most popular layman's source on Hitler.
