How would one go about understanding organised crime?
Which field covers the foundations of organised crime?
Criminology?
Sociology?
Economics?
History?
Should one try to abstract the subject, or take in as much as possible? Book reccomendations are highly appreciated.

all of the above.
Organized crime is just using illegitimate means to reach legitimate goals.
Take prohibition...
>Our criminal justice system outlawed alcohol.
>The market for alcohol still existed.
>Supply/Demand
>People broke the law to corner a market and make money
>resulting crime ensues as illegimate maarkets compete and expand

The fact is that organized criminal organizations rarely do anything that the government's that they operate within haven't done themselves. The only reason they're illegal or criminal is because they're not giving a cut to the government
