Am I the only one who sees the value of moderation and compromise? Of course an extreme push towards one or the other is going to end in either totalitarianism or anarchy.

It's not collectivism that leads to genocidal, authoritarian regimes, it's the revolutionary mentality, which not only believes that human society and nature can be changed by political action, but it also bases this belief in an imaginary future of its own invention, a future that is used to justify actions in the present.

There is literally no way such a mentality can't go wrong.

Entrusting too many powers to a central figure/government always end up with corruption.

Another problem with collectivism is that a powerful and brutal central government is basically necessary because most people don't want to share. It's human nature.
