Octavian defeated Marc Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium and went on to become the first emperor of Rome, but how would things have turned out if Antony bested Octavian? Would it even be that different?

It would have been very different due to Marc Antony's hard on for Cleopatra and Egypt. At best, this might cause a Byzantine-like situation. At worst, you'd get a civil war or assassination due to unhappy Italians.

If Augustus had not won then Rome would've eternally been destroyed. Anthony's loyalties no longer layed in Rome whatsoever but purely in Egypt, the land of inbred pharaohs, and that corrupting harlot Cleopatra. Augustus went on to make Rome grand and to give us, filthy Barbarians who were nothing more but naked savages bathing in our own filth, civilization through Roman military conquest and mercy. We would not be here basking in the light of Rome's shadow if Anthony had his way. Augustus was pure and upheld the virtues of the Republic and traditional Roman values that have formed the basis of all successful states from Rome itself to America. Marcus Antonius would've left nothing but eastern debuchery and betrayal in his wake for future people of the western world.

t. Octavian

Octavian keeping the empire together during the transition from Republic to Empire and gaining a ton of valuable land was a combination of political genius and incredible luck. Very few others could've done it, certainly not Antony after getting himself basically shunned by the Roman elites and plebs.

>shunned by the Roman elites and public
He actually was quite popular after Caesar's assassination.
