Sometimes I wish we could have an educated discussion on socialism. All you seem to get is epic /pol/ may-mays and psudohistoric capitalist propaganda.

So is "social democrat" the term for somebody who supports some elements of socialism (worker's rights, a welfare state, etc.) to protect an overall capitalist system with no goal of eventually transitioning to pure socialism?

Because any attempt at universal organization is seen as premodern. Really, any objective racionalism is, meaning believing in anything outside the self, like god, equality, or peace. This as a consequence of the advancement of science as the paradigm for reason, and capitalism's inherent tendency to make people selfish.

For this society asking whether equality is better than inequality is irrelevant because it can't be proven scientifically.

Weirdly enough, the concept of nation after the French Revolution was based on a similar metaphysical objective rationalism as a religion, but instead of using "revelation" as a way to legitimize power, they used "reason", having the nation as a god.

However, nowadays the reason behind the existence of a nation (as a supreme entity) doesn't hold, because capitalism alienates us from those objective ideas (from society and shared goals). And as we know, when reason flakes, it becomes susceptible to ideological puppetry and lies. We are being indoctrined everyday by the capitalist system itself (understood as the people on top, because capitalism isn't democratic), building a dogma in which to base its reason for existing.

yeah this is totally accurate. tons of people i know equate socialism with social democracy and consider it a revised version of socialism rather than a separate thing, and are very fond of it. at least where I live (in a pretty liberal state) this definitely seems to be majority view of younger generations.
