Why did the US govt feel so threatened by him? Also Father Coughlin general.
>millions of followers
>supports our enemies
Gee I dunno it's a mystery.

>thinks he supported the axis as opposed to being against inhuman liberal capitalism that America was pushing

Pretty much this, it sounds like he loved America, but he hated communism, fascism, atheist jews, and capitalism slowly leading towards consumerism. There wasn't a whole lot Coughlin liked beyond church, anti-war, and isolation.
At least that was the idea I got from reading his newspapers, maybe he was different on his radio broadcasts.

>against inhuman liberal capitalism
Inhumane compared to what? The disorganized laissez faire capitalism of his forefathers?

He had some sort of middle ground view in which workers were treated very well and with dignity, but I don't remember if it was through unions or something closer to Fordism. At any rate, he didn't seem to like people putting in long hours for pennies because factory owners could get away with it.
It sort of depends on who's giving an account of his beliefs, I've heard anything from "He was a straight up national socialist," to "he supported free enterprise of the individual." I think the truth is sort of lost to history, but like I said, I haven't finished going through all of his stuff because I haven't dug up his radio broadcasts yet.

He liked FDR and the New Deal until he decided that FDR was too easy on banks, which was a sign of jewish supremacy.
