Europe
>Europeans all stylistically identical
>no innovation
>you can hardly tell one country's from another, they lack any soul or meaningful difference

Japan
>Utterly unique
>highly divergent compared to other Asian styles
>when you see it, you say "yep, that's definitely Japan" whereas Europe's are muddy and international with no reflection of the country's spirit

Japan wins again as usual

Did 'realism' as an art movement and 'rationalism' go hand in hand?

Something that European art had in plenty.

I guess this is why Asia is known as the continent with literally zero innovation and just shamelessly copying the West in everything.

And you're still wrong, doodling a stick figure of Donald Trump with your poop is technically more original than painting an image with Rembrandt's technique but it's hardly more valuable.

I guess this is why Trumpanzees are known for being narrow minded retards who obediently regurgitate stereotypes without bothering to do any corroborating research

I unironically think the japanese aesthetic isn't any less interesting or impressive than european neoclassicism of the same time period. they're the only non-western cultural identity I would say that about, too. it's hard to see without the big picture that is japanese culture as a whole. their artwork, clothing, architecture, everything comes together and creates a universal and cozy aesthetic. haven't had much of that in the west since ancient mediterranean times.

Lay people are always impressed by toil and mistake this for the artistic process.

Time to post this. The left is western and the right is Japan. It's just the difference of how to see the reality. Japan is more symbolic.

Japan seems to have had a style slimier to Medieval Europeans or Post-Orthodox Eastern Romans i.e. they could have drawn more realistic but chose not to for artistic reasons. I'm not the OP and disagree with his sediment, but your example is particularly egregious.

Underrated comment.

Most Europeans just copied each other's style of music/art/architecture. Put them in the same room and you'd have trouble telling them apart. Not to mention that perhaps while the Mediterranean had some impressive civilisations, Western, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia were no better than Sub-Sahara Africa.

Japanese-style tried to integrate their architecture to nature. Probably something having to do with Japan's nature and geography being more vibrant in terms of colour than the Mediterranean. So there wasn't that much effort to improve on the intricacy of architecture, but more effort was made to integrate an already very beautiful scenery with architecture.

Furthermore, the average house during the Edo period seemed better compared to the average house during the Roman period where commoners were often squeezed into apartments. Rome wasn't great unless you were rich.
