Why did the Israelis support Iran in the Iran-Iraq war? This runs counter to all the rhetoric of the Islamic Revolution, yet the Israelis sold them 80% of their arms during the war.

Basically, Israeli hatred of Arabs trumps all other geopolitical concerns.

They thought the Revolution was just an interlude and that Iran would quickly return to a monarchy or a democratic republic that would be Israel's main ally.
Tbh that'd be the sane course for Iran to take even as an Islamic Republic, since both Iran and Israel were opposed to Sunni Islamic monarchies and secular Arab nationalists, ie the entire fucking middle east in early 80s. But that ship has sailed now.
