Is metaphysics a legitimate scientific field?
>>2336875
No, but its a legitimate philosophical field
>>2336875
science is a meme
>>2336875
It's proto-science, kinda like alchemy and astrology.
>>2336875
Nope! Trivial baloney as philosophy, too!
>>2336875
Metaphysics is truth. Science is the passing phase of the temporal plane.

Philosophy is how we understand our world.

It has nothing to do with science, it's beyond science in both literal and metaphoric sense.
This board is full of retards.

Closest answer, except "beyond" is meaningless in this context.
Metaphysics is just a discussion of the *explanations* that underly physics, where physics is the study of the physical world. Physics explains observed phenomena in terms of other hypothesized physical processses, which are themselves unseen with respect to the original phenomena being explained. Meta-physics is the discussion of why the physical world should exist at all, or have any of the properties it does. Metaphysics can be influenced by physics, and like all KNOWLEDGE there are places where they overlap. But in general, observable phenomena that are subject to falsifiable prediction are the purview of physics.

I didn't answer OP explicitly.
Metaphysics is by definition not a field of science, because it doesn't make testable predictions about observable phenomena. It is a set of untestable hypotheses about the nature of the universe that gives rise to the features that we describe as physics.

Metaphysics is called so because when Aristotles works were found, they were placed beyond physics, hence the "literal"
