Wrong. Although Freud is largely considered irrelevent in most modern (pharma)psychology, he does form the basis for psychotherapy, even if most of his 'specifics' are smirked at and ignored today. His theories of defence mechanisms DO seem to largely hold up though. Plus, the idea of subconscious thoughts and intentions altering our behaviour is attributed to Freud.

As you say, he gets credit for being the godfather of psychology. He set the stage for treating it like a science (insert STEM laughter here), even if he himself did put his carts before his horses.
