Can anyone recommend some good books as a starting point for Scandinavian history that says a little more than "we wuz Vikings n sheet"

you could check out the book"Heimskringla" by Snorre Sturlason if you want to learn about Norwegian history from someone living in the early 13th century. It's a pretty dull read though
