At what point is a group of people considered their own race?
Beyond color, of course.

Whatever you feel like.

This.
Race is pretty meaningless of a term. Who is considered "white" can range from just Germanics to including Arabs and Indian Aryans depending on who you talk to.
Ethnicity is a better way to separate groups because it actually takes into account real differences in culture, location, etc. as opposed to just physical traits that one deems to be of certain races arbitrarily.
Another thread about races. Color me surprised.

Anyone else have mixed feels? I can't help but think race isn't that important, but to handwave it as a social construct belies the nuances of the science behind race.

The notion of race is just nonsensical, see

There are genetic differences between human populations, but "race" is more of a meme classification used for easy categorization, than any substantial division of people into phenotypical categories. Ethnicity is more descriptive and needs less explaining.
