Most likely, there just would have been a different catalyst. France really wanted a war with Germany, and had already secretly aligned with Russia. Germany already was planning to invade the low lands to fight France which brings England in.

its pretty much agreed that AH leaders were very seriously concerned that Serbia was an existential threat to the empire.

On the other hand France was waiting for its chance to reclaim Alsace and lorraine.

On the other hand the Kaiser was really bad at diplomacy.

On the other hand GB was going to intervene any any conflict to maintain balance of power based on the situation at hand.

On the other hand Italy was going to jump in and grab whatever territory it could from whoever was weakest.

On the other other hand the US was going to invest laon money to whoever was willing to take out aloan, which meant money lenders in the US would panic if their investments looked to be at risk and pressure the congress to go to war.

On the final hand Russia had its self imposed mission to unite the slavs.

The serbs were out of control. But the kaiser was so bad at diplomacy he could have started a war. Britian was fucking with Russia all over the place and willing to go to war protect its interests in India. Germany and France were clashing over colonial issues like in Morocco. The ottoman empire was dying and Britian was propping it up to keep other powers from going in.

IN other words there were plenty of opportunities for something else to go wrong and for the powers to take advantage of it.

Almost every nation had issues that it faced that it considered worthy of going to war that were constantly being inflammed by the others.

The july crisis could have been resolved without war but mistakes were made in all the parts that were in place to keep the peace.
