as a human species
where now pretty much 95 percent of the population is smarter than this man?
>>2309499
No we are just more knowledgeable, but most humans today are retards compared to ancient Greek citizens.
>>2309515
everyone is a product of their time.
The ancient greeks had both an obligation and incentive to not be complete idiots.
We have quite a high standard of living today allowing for a wider margin of incompetence and obligation for us exists only as a legal term.
>>2309499
id argue that very few people today are actually smarter than isaac newton.
how many people today could actually redevelop calculus?
>>2309499
>where now pretty much 95 percent of the population is smarter than this man?
More than 95% of the human population are literally children.
>>2309537
Exactly. Stupid question.
What i mean is the average high school atheist is probably smarter than Newton
>>2309550
You're a living breathing example of why you're wrong.
>>2309550
It's bcuz new tom was a stoopid xstian :DDDDD
I am le smart atheist ~~~~
>The texts indicated that Newton had spent a great deal of the last half of his life trying to find the secrets of the future coded into the Bible. Newton learned Hebrew and began to obsessively analyze the architecture of the Temple of Solomon (based solely on its description in one Bible chapter). He went so far as to sketch detailed drawings of the Temple, so he could stare at the angles and see the future ... somehow.
kek probably
Not smarter, we just have access to more knowledge than he did
>>2309499
Impossible to say. With modern technology our capabilities have expanded, whether intelligence has is simply unknown.
I do feel that your average person might've been dumbed down a bit by tv and etc, as well as the fact that many people nowadays are specialists in one thing, i.e. human resources management, so they don't need to know much else to make a living.
I imagine that in the ancient civilised societies the people would have a broader knowledge and be exposed to new ideas and concepts instead of "how do we fire Bobby without making him angry"

So? Autism fuels doscovery.
Newton got interested in math only because he was studying astrology that needed some mathematics to understand.

>95 percent of people could reinvent calculus over the course of a few weeks if they needed to
If you're an American, consider for the moment that the average ACT composite score is ~20. Think about how retarded you have to be to score a 20 on the ACT. Now consider that half of the population scores BELOW 20 on the bloody ACT.
If you honestly think any of those people could reinvent calculus then you're a straight up retard.
>>2309499
Define 'smart'.
>95% of the population smarter than Newton, a mathematical genius who founded calculus and laid the foundation for physics.
OP just stop.
