Why do people continue to parrot this utter bullshit?

They have switched voter coalitions and campaign strategies over the years, but the Republican Party today (Trump era aside) is still by and large the same party it was under Lincoln in broad philosophy.

There was only a brief time through the 1950s-60s where the parties were a bit switched, but that quickly corrected again under Reagan.

Outside of those 2 decades and Teddy's populism, It has always been the center-right party.

To trick people into thinking the Democrat party is not the party of slavery, the party of segregation, the party of Jim Crow laws, the party who defeated the Republican Civil Rights Act and filibustered the Democrat Civil Rights Act; the party who enslaved blacks just as surely with the entitlement programs as with the whips and the chains.

They're the same racist evil scum they always were.

They just add "liars" on top of it all.

>giving people foodstamps and affordable healthcare so they can afford to eat and go to the doctor is literally slavery
is this what you're saying?
>>
>>2306180
Outsider to this conversation but foodstamps and healthcare aren't really done so that people have food and medical care.

It's so that they pay less for those services and use the money that they save to buy products and put their money back into circulation. The less people have to spend on necessities the more they can spend on luxuries which makes the market go round.
>>
>>2306148
The only thing the parties have switched on is social issues and the switched happened mor ein the 90's not the 60s. Republicans have always been more pro free market than the dems.
>>
>>2306206
If that were true then what's the incentive to cut spending for social welfare programs? Isn't the rational behind that it will save taxpayers money, i.e. allowing them to "spend on luxuries" because they have more disposable income?
>>
>>2306206

Right because it's literally impossible that anyone could possibly care whether other people have enough food and medicine.
>>
democrats shifted from being vaguely early 20th-century Labor into the Liberal Democrats, which is a pretty drastic shift

Social issues are largely contemporary distractions, and more often then not, would resolve themselves eventually anyway without real political involvement. Politicians mostly use them to guide idiots to vote a certain way, like how both parties played political football with the black vote.

>LBJ says "alright, we'll take the blacks now so we can fix the parties"
>Nixon agrees and pretends to be racist to get the southern whites to vote for him, and it works despite the fact that he actually continued desegregation and expanded AA in his presidency
>Reagan does the same thing, and reauthorizes the voting rights act for 25 years, signs the civil liberties act, and amnesties a whole bunch of Mexicans, yet successfully convinced idiots he was still racist
>Bill Clinton comes in and signs a law enforcement bill that leads to the incarceration of countless African Americans and is hailed as the "First black president" because he plays the saxophone and dicks around on women

Basically, voters don't actually give a shit about what the politicians actually do, and just fall for the circus. Nothing has changed.
>>
>>2306475
Democrats HAVE changed, but Republicans really haven't outside of Trump whom I doubt will lead to an actual permanent change.
>>
>>2306217
Because starving your citizens is bad for party image for the next election. Welfare is easier than actual job and wealth creation.

Republicans are honestly in a better spot to pivot to being a left wing party; democrats are too cosmopolitan and technocratic to do so at this point, while all a Republican has to do is extend the anti-Hollywood/academia/elitism rhetoric into also being against Wall Street and consumerism and the base would probably line right up behind him possibly even with minority support; Democrats can't do that because they'd get into trouble with Hollywood and they're afraid not actively going out of their way to be seen as not caring about people who might be racist (such as the anti-elite crowd) is racist and thereby mortal sin
>>
>>2306180

Yes.

It's literal slavery with the intent of breaking up black families and promoting single black mothers with unruly children penned into government projects.

The misery is just as intended.

>Republicans are honestly in a better spot to pivot to being a left wing party

But why in the actual fuck would they do that? Republicans have always basically aligned ideologically behind the one simple thought that competition is the key to progressing society whether voters are aware of it or not.
