>What went right?
His shift on nuclear strategy was a huge boon for the U.S.

What went wrong?
Literally everything else.
>>
>>2292299
>what went right
His domestic policy
>what went wrong
Muh American imperialism
Americas oil addiction
>>
Right:

Conservation as a major part Energy policy
Personally drove Camp David Accords by force of character
Superfund cleanups
SALT II
Pell Grants
Panama Treaty
Moral principles and self-respect

Wrong:

Neoconservatives
Arab oil
Micromanaging and trusting old friends
Cynical media
>>
>>2292299
>What went right?
Nothing
>What went wrong?
Being a little bitch

Right:
He was a nice man
He got on well with James Callaghan
Err... Airline de-regulation had some upsides for passengers.
can you tell I'm a resentful plane-geek yet.
Mostly good foreign policy, also the moral element that would've stopped F-16 exports to most places. (Fucking Reagan killed the F-20 lightweight fighter by allowing the USAF model to be exported.)
Understanding the long-term implications of the energy crisis.

Wrong:
Coming to power when he did, thus taking the blame for a horrible economy that was actually primarily down to world circumstances (Hello James Callaghan!)
De-Regulating banks and turning towards neoliberalism to save the economy.
Expecting Americans to understand the crisis of confidence speech as anything other than MALAISE FOREVER.
Not saving the Shah. Maybe.

With force of hindsight he should probably have just pushed the nuclear button in 79.

>Mostly good foreign policy
He ruined relations with the vast majority of America's allies which had the end result of doing fuck all except helping the Soviet Union when they needed it the most. Carter's foreign policy was one of the biggest diplomatic fuck ups in American history, if not THE biggest diplomatic fuck up.
>>
He tried to jew the jews and got jewed back by reagan. He still tries to jew the jews to this day, like revealing secrets about their nuclear arsenal. Stay comfy, based carter.
