How does one study a military campaign so as to truly understand it?
it depends on what of it you want to tell: there are multiple ways of seeing a military campaign: from technical to emotional categories and so on and each one has its own type of analisy

Well like >>2285942 said there's even a bit of scope within that. Starting with what you mean by campaign. It's a bit of a loose term. Do you mean an offensive that's part of a larger theatre, like the Somme or Passchendale? Or do you mean an entire theatre such as North Africa in WW2 or Spain/Portugal in the Napoleonic Wars?
