Is labor virtuous?
It seems that most people strive to labor less. We automate our labors for more leisure.
If labor is virtuous, the best way to increase our virtue would be to tear down industrial processes and increase our work as much as possible for a more virtuous society. But no one, not even those who love laboring, have considered doing that.
If labor is not virtuous, why do we pretend it is? Why not just say that labor is an unfortunate necessity to live in society, and that ideally we should strive for a society without the need to labor?
Because we have to at least make pretend it is dumb dumb, how do you think society would look of we didn't at least keep up the appearances of glorifying labor?
Fully functional ditch digger bots won't pop into existence just because we stop glorifying labor.
