they phased those out in favor of Harpaxes pretty quickly because the sheer weight of the bridge made them really easy to sink in stormy waters.
still, nothing more Roman than coming up with a way to simply stab the enemy when he was once unstab-able
debatable whether this actually existed

If by funny you mean BTFO of Carthage then yes.
They tried to tempt the zealots holding Jerusaleum to end their siege by having their soldiers line up outside of the city, and their general would give each and every soldier their pay for the month. It really didn't work, but it's funny imaging the defenders just watching this all go down.

The way it all ended was even funnier. 20 men grabbed a horn (for signalling) standard bearer (for bragging rights), snuck off of sentry duty-death penalty- scaled the wall, killed jews, and signaled the army.
The jews thought the entire army was on the walls and panicked.
Before that, they lost a fortress to a few men wandering off and pulling stones out of a tower until it collapsed.
Another fell because two Romans got drunk, got into a pissing match you'd expect out of fucking /pol/, and climbed a wall to see who could kill more jews.
The answer? They killed so many that the army came up and took the wall.
Jew are apparently highly vulnerable to bored soldiers fucking around.
