Why did Hitler go to war--was it his personality as some are apt to suggest (as well as his personality reflected in the German people--one may call this internal) or were there other reasons (external forces). Would appreciate some edification as I am currently reading a text book which is suggesting the former.
/his/ is not your personal history homework board.

Sure but is the discussion pathology in respect to a historical figure interesting?

The soviets were gobbling up east europe at pretty steady rate and the conflict between the ethnic german minority in poland gave him an excuse to build an empire to stop them. Unfortunately it was a poor choice, considering if he waited a few more years he would have significantly more allies (franco) and they would've been at a significantly better economic standing (italian economic miracle of the 50s.)
Shit, if poland was feeling desperate enough they could create right wing european mega-alliance, similar to an uncucked nato.

>The soviets were gobbling up east europe at pretty steady rate
opinion IMMEDIATELY discarded. You revealed you don't know what you're talking about in your very first sentence.
>>2276906
>Why did Hitler go to war
Mostly to get his hands on more kikes (aka those from conquered countries) and gas them

>"yeah guys, the polish-soviet war, the occupation of georgia, armenia and the winter war was a big joke hahaha"
Good one
>>2276983
>polish-soviet war
The USSR didn't expand their borders in this war
>the occupation of georgia, armenia
These were essentially internal conflicts against elements of former imperial russia. The Georgian government was even run by the Mensheviks
>and the winter war
This happened AFTER Hitler kickstarted WW2 by invading Poland

All still valid attempts/actualities of the USSR gobbling up eastern europe.

Here's what you said
>The soviets were gobbling up east europe at pretty steady rate
Whereas in reality the USSR's borders essentially remained unchanged from the end of the Russian Civil War in 1922 to 1939 as Stalin perused a deliberately neutral policy of "Socialism in One Country"

pursued*
>>2277040
>Polish Soviet war
>USSR didn't expand
>>2277195
The war settled disputed territory which isn't the same as gobbling up more, and again, it happened in the context of the Russian Civil War of the early 20s, after which the USSR remained neutral and its borders static until the start of WW2.
>>2277212
"""disputed territory""" lmfao
>>2277450
It's why the war was fought in the first place and even if I concede the point, the polish-soviet war was not a salient point in the run up to WW2, nor does it support the original statement that the soviets were 'steadily gobbling up eastern europe' since soviet borders remained static for more than a decade after that until AFTER WW2 had already begun
