^ I recommend reading this link. It beautifully defends how Rumi was of a Persian cultural background rather than Turkish. His teacher Shams Tabrizi was also Persian.
He also refers to Attar and Sanai as his teachers many times. They too were Persian. All 3 of them wrote 99 percent of their poems in Farsi
If you like Rumi, I also recommend Conference of the Bird by Attar. There are some translations out there.
