What is the best literature that embodies the Irish spirit? Oscar Wilde seemed to prefer fantasizing over Victorian nonsense, and Joyce is slightly more what I like, yet still too experimental. I'm looking for things that capture the spirit of the Irish people. Stuff that would fit sitting in a pub and listening to traditional music...
Any recommendations on traditional Irish literature?
James Joyce, I guess.

Confirmed for not understanding Wilde.

Wilde was literally a faggot. Picture of Dorian Gray doesn't even mention Ireland

This, the whole book is 10% gothic horror and 90% gay romance.
Cúirt An Mheán Oíche captures the spirit of Irish literature very well imo
I can understand finding Joyce a bit too experimental, and in the end he was working to capture a very specific spirit of early 20th century Dublin urbanism, which is about as far removed from the rest of Ireland as you can get
