General discussion thread
Also Im writing a paper and I want your opinions on my thoughts so far.
Would it be fair to say that the allegory itself is doing exactly what Plato is talking about by
A) exposing the reader to a new way of thinking while simultaneously attempting to tear down the way we "normally" percieve the world (as it relates to forms, think the shadows vs. the objects casting them)
B) Being a violent, groundbreaking new way of explaining and thinking about the world, which is similar to the violent imagery of the prisoner being dragged to the surface, blinded by the sun ect.
In other words does the allegory of the cave itself do to the reader what is done to the escaped prisoner in it, forcing him to see the truth?

>prisoner being dragged to the surface
Doesn't he escape?
This graphic should help you see what's going on. Just stick to this schema and don't deviate from it.

Well its worded a bit ambiguously, he is "suddenly compelled" to get up and go outside, although it's described as a painful experience. In other words his escape is painful and discomforting even if it is something he does willingly.
