We all know one of the biggest reasons for Nazism growing in Germany was because of the economic and cultural depression after WW1, but what gave rise to Italian Fascism? Italy was an Allied power in WW1 and never received any of the economic and military sanctions Germany had. What made people got on board with it so quickly?
>>
check out the fascist manifesto they were basically modern day swedish style socdems or at least made pretend to be

Yeah, but they still got buttfucked by the Depression, like the rest of the world's economies. There's a reason it's called "The Great Depression" just like WWI was called "The Great War." It was a global phenomenon which led to massive uncertainty, which naturally made people rally around a strongman who promised greatness and seemed to have his shit together.

Mussolini came to power in '22. Depression was '29

Several reasons:
1-Italy was promised land by Britain for their participation in the war and only received a small part of this land. Understandably this pissed off soldiers who gave their blood and sweat in the Alps
2-Communists looked like they might take over (lots of terrorism)
3-Several ineffective governments
4-Mussolini himself driving forward events (march on rome etc)

Also you have to remember fascism didn't have any stigma back then. Arguably it has been unfairly tainted by the Austrian Autist

Butthurt, just like German butthurt created Hitler or Magyar butthurt created Horhty
>>
>>2249034
So with all the current USA butthurt, are we on our way to electing a fascist once more. Oh wait...
>>
>>2248558
Four main reasons.
Italy was...

1. Very poor, millions of frustrated Italians were leaving to the USA, Canada, Argentina, etc. Those that stayed were politically restless. A frustrated mass of young people is always a dark omen.

2. Felt betrayed. After switching sides in WW1 the Allies sidelined Italy and gave it little in terms of lands and concessions.

3. Socialist Unions and anarchists were commiting many terrorist attacks and direct action methods, this contributed to make democratic leaders appear weak and inneffectual.

4. No tradition of democracy. Italian political institutions were weak and prone to corruption.

Was it not also VERY sudden and abrupt? I seem to recall stories about Mussolini being completely fucking baffled that he was suddenly in charge.
>>

Yes, it's called the March on Rome.
It was basically a coup.

Don't belittle actual fascism because Trump says mean things. It's not historical anyway.

its interesting to think about what would of happened if Mussolini did invade Germany over Dollfuss and if Fascism would still have the look it has today due to Hitler

>Mussolini had no hesitation in attributing the attack to the German dictator: the news reached him at Cesena, where he was examining the plans for a psychiatric hospital. The Duce personally gave the announcement to the widow, who was a guest at his villa in Riccione with children

>Mussolini also mobilized a part of the Italian army on the Austrian border and threatened Hitler with war in the event of a German invasion of Austria to thwart the putsch. Then he announced to the world: "The independence of Austria, for which he has fallen, is a principle that has been defended and will be defended by Italy even more strenuously

>and then replaced in the main square of Bolzano the statue of Walther von der Vogelweide, a Germanic troubadour, with that of Drusus, a Roman general who conquered part of Germany. This was the greatest moment of friction between Fascism and National Socialism and Mussolini himself came down several times to reaffirm the differences in the field

>Out of a population of 6.5 million, approximately 500,000 Austrians were present at Dollfuss’ burial in Vienna.[16] He is interred in the Hietzing cemetery in Vienna[17] beside his wife Alwine Dollfuss (d. 1973) and two of his children, Hannerl and Eva, all of whom were in Italy as guests of Rachele Mussolini at the time of his death, an event which saw Mussolini himself shed tears over his slain ally.
