Stop using buzzwords like "repressive". Saying that those attitudes are repressive implies that the things they're trying to limit are good, which is not what the religions think at all, so it's not a good characterization of them.
Is it "repressive" to have laws against murder? Literally yes, it represses murderers. Is it repressive in its negative connotation? No.
