>Kenilworth
Longest and at that point largest siege in British history.
Place where Edward II abdicated.
Rumoured to have caused Henry V's expedition to France.
>>2245721
It's strange because Kenilworth is rarely mentioned compared to other castles in the UK but it seems like every mediboo considers it the Holy Grail of English castles.
>>2245721
Posted this in previous thread: Arva Castle, Hungarian kingdom (now Slovakia)
Was built after the first Mongol invasion, the first Nosferatu movie was filmed there and the Kaer Morhen castle from Witcher 3 game is based on it.
>>2245771
Castles on rock faces like that give me a boner, like this one.
>>2245764
This is probably because Warwick castle is not that far away, and when it comes to amount of visitors and TV appearances, the aesthetic Warwick will always be more popular. However, it's history is literally that it was owned by rich barons, whereas Kenilworth was involved in actual historical events.
>>2245721
Dolbadarn castle in Gwynedd, North Wales. Built by Llewelyn the Great. It was built to guard the passes through Snowdonia but also because it was symbolic.
Biggest red brick castle in Europe.
>>2247135
I've always liked Malbork since I first read about it a few years back. Even if you ignore its history, it's amazing to look at.

It's a castle building project in Burgundy, France, using medieval techniques. Looks like you can also participate in the construction.

They build a lot of things, bridges, churches, roads, rail lines, hotels, parks, even mock-up mosques.
Why? To boost tourism. Worked even better then expected.
Predjama castle in Slovenia, built on a cliffside on the entrance to the cave behind it. Hence the name, meaning "cavefront". You can also see the escape exit a bit lower on the cliff.

It's only record of existence is in old maps.
> S. Ireland
Amazing how much history just gets swept away, we're the only generation that actively stops the destruction of ancient sites, how much history has been lost by the generations who didn't give a shit, or didn't have any regulations to prevent them for erasing history.

>>2272842
Looks like there are still photos of it online from 2016. Whether the historical artefacts, going back 5,000 years, within the museum it housed are still there is a different matter.

i visited Neuschwanstein this summer. left dissapointed. inside was not as aesthetic as i thought and they didnt want to answer my questions about nazi's. outside was really cool tho. great views. would still recommend if you're in southeast germany
>>2273870
What does Neuschwanstein have to do with nazis if I may ask?
ps: I never thought it was aesthetic, it's a disney castle.
nobody got pics of sexy French or Italian castles?
>>2275193
Not too much but wanted to learn and they kind of deflected my questions. They hid a ton of stolen art and gold there during the war but hoped to learn something new. The tour lasts maybe 30 mins max so there's not much time to really talk and ask questions to guide. The views at the top were worth it tho.

>Fasil Ghebbi (Royal Enclosure) is the remains of a fortress-city within Gondar, Ethiopia. It was founded in the 17th and 18th centuries by Emperor Fasilides (Fasil) and was the home of Ethiopia's emperors. Its unique architecture shows diverse influences including Nubian styles. The site was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Ghebbi is an Amharic word for a compound or enclosure.
>The origins of the Fasil Ghebbi can be found in the old tradition of the Ethiopian emperors to travel around their possessions, living off the produce of the peasants and dwelling in tents. Reflecting this connection, this precinct was frequently referred to as a katama ("camp" or "fortified settlement") or makkababya, the name applied to the imperial camp in the Royal Chronicle of Baeda Maryam.
>Emperor Fasilides broke with this tradition of progressing through the territories, and founded the city of Gondar as his capital; its relative permanence makes the city historically important. Within the capital, he commanded the construction of an imposing edifice, the Fasil Gemb or Fasilides castle. The area around the Fasil Gemb was delineated by a wall with numerous gates. Subsequent emperors built their own structures, many of which survive either in whole or part today. Visiting the Fasil Ghebbi in the late 1950s, Thomas Pakenham observed that "dotted among the palaces are what remains of the pavilions and kiosks of the imperial city".
>Fasil Ghebbi covers an area of about 70,000 square meters. To its south lies Adababay, the market place of Gondar, where imperial proclamations were made, troops presented, and criminals executed; it is currently a city park.

Windsor castle is the biggest in the UK
>>2259959
This. The interior is pretty fascinating too.
>>2279602
I'm pretty sure Windsor is the largest castle in the UK (definitely the largest inhabited castle) but that's due to additional work. I think in its time Dover was at one point the largest.
