The Fall of Yugoslavia couldn't be stopped. With Tito dead, ethnic and border tensions rising, debt crippling the economy and the general fall of communism, Yugoslavia had an almost non-existing chance to survive. Maybe it could have been less bloody if the cooperation between politcians was better but hey, that's my opinion.

Its difficult to say. When you look at unification of Italy or Germany you see that while the people where very different they had a sense of Italian or German identity even if it clashed with more local ones. Yugoslavia seems to be composed of separate ethnicities which adds a barrier in the age of nation states.

Yugoslavia was never a unitary state, it was very confederalist, Tito is given credit for stamping out nationalism but in many ways he did the opposite. Every ethno republic had its own separate civic organizations, its own separate civic societies ie Veterans Organization of Croatia, Veterans Organization of Serbia. People tended to never leave their own ethno republic for the most part ie if a Croat needed to go see a specialist he'd go to the Croatian doctor in the Croatian capital, Serbs generally went to university in Belgrade Serbia, the Slovenes were even more insular because of language etc. The only people who truly bought into yugoslavism were Bosnian Muslims and children of mixed marriages and even then they didn't really.

Tito was a great guy and everyone more or less loved him but he never really went all the way to stamp out extreme ethno nationalism every nationalist in the 90s that gained power only did 5 years under his rule for inciting ethno nationalism ie a slap on the wrist.
tldr Tito and Yugoslavia never really went all the way to foster yugoslavism and what little that they did automatically caused people to chimp out and be sectarian anyway

No not in the long run. Ethnic and economic differences were too big in the long run. Once the uniting ideology failed yugoslavia was bound too fail.

Yep. Serbian nationalism was able to instrumentalize the central state and army. By trying to reach its goals it accelarated the decay of yugoslavia, incited ethnic warfare and allowed foreign powers to influence the political and military situation. I am not saying it is all the serbs fault but they initiated the whole mess.

"Communism" did a great job destroying religious radicals, but unfortunately they didn't really do much to stop nationalism post-Lenin. In many ways Stalin's promotion of Soviet nationalism and lack of suppression of ethnic nationalism left a lasting effect on the second world.
