I'm pretty sure the apologism on /his/ is just a meme. He's a mass murdering but relatively obscure historical figure with a funny mustache and some idiocy that's fun to point out.

The Turkish worship of him is completely genuine though, there he's just viewed as an overall great dude who gave more rights to minorities and modernized the army so it could fight against the evil Anglos and then the Greeks.
