Sicily is the centre of the world, no doubt about it.
we were conquered by everyone (Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Carthagineans, Byzantines, Visigoths, Muslims, Normans, Swabians, Orleans, Aragonese, Habsburg, Spanish, Savoy, Italians and Americans just to name a few), and still we always had our distinctive cultural traits: fear of progress, omertà, amoral familism etc.
