Would this happen to us?

Any species sufficiently advanced to the point of interstellar travel will understand the relative rarity of alien life, especially intelligent alien life.

We would just be another resource for them. Like we know ants and bees make complex structures but I dont mind killing them.

Independence day is just as likely, depending on if they are interested in our resources.... Or slave labor. Or food. Or even good sport.

How come we always win, I doubt if they can travel the distances needed, we stand an ice cubes chance in Hades. The answer is totally dependent on what their motivation is.

We've already been in contact with "aliens" for the entirety of human history. They already own the world, but there's a struggle between the two different factions. They're not from another planet. They're not even from the universe. The only resource here that they're interested in is our souls.

We've no idea if it's rare. We just know no one's building any megastructures near us and seem to be leaving us alone, if it isn't.

Also, they may not give a shit. Advanced does not necessarily mean "nice" or "inclusive". Could just as likely be an alien race of /pol/ users out to wipe out all the lesser species.

Or, if they are biologically or mechanically immortal (and that's likely) they may have enough long term vision to realize its best to wipe out potential threats, however distant.

But it's still an unlikely that scenario, as any species capable of interstellar travel, assuming FTL isn't a thing, isn't going to be much interested in anything we might have. They'll already have solved all their natural resource problems. If they have any resource issues at all, they'll be artificial ones, that we likely can't mass produce.

If FTL is a thing, and it's just some simple breakthrough we've been barely missing due to fundamental misunderstandings in our physics, then you might wind up in that situation - where you have interstellar travelers running about who have not yet resolved their natural resource issues. Even then, they are much more apt to wipe us all out from a distance, in a way we'll never see coming. Not very likely to come down and enslave us.

I suppose you might wind up with an inclusive species bent on "uplifting" any life that it finds to add to what it views as the collective of life in the universe though. In which case, they'll still wipe you out, but culturally, rather than outright genocide. In that case, it would be a bit like some of the later interim efforts to integrate the Native Americans, by eliminating their culture and assimilating them, by, for instance, giving their children over to white families, except it'll probably also involve a lot of genetic tinkering, thus mankind will no longer be recognizable.
