However, modern Japan has been a faithful ally and trading partner of the US and the Western world. And unlike most posters on 4chan who don't read Japanese history, I can sorta excuse the post-WW2 generation because Japan was an oligarchy of nobles, businessmen, and military leaders. There was no actual sense of democracy since the Diet (modeled after the Prussian model) was a joke, the common working man did not elect those guys into power. Japan has a long history of subservience to those in power and nothing was gonna change that until the US stomped their asses. Contemporary Japan, for all its faults, is intensely pacifistic and more interested in creature comforts than jumping into battle. The South Korean military can do more damage than Japan can.

This is too true, Japan is fucked if it ever gets into a military confrontation with its neighbors anytime soon. It's really the fault of the wartime generation who not only committed the war crimes. They also thought that China and Korea would never become powerful again so there was no need to atone as a nation. The smugness and superiority complex of the Japanese always screws them over in the end.

Speaking as someone whose read a lot of military history and examined Japan's, that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The real problem with Japanese military and political thinking is they truly underrate factors like logistics and the everyday sinews of warfare like communication, staff work, intel, vehicle maintenance, and other essentials.

They're too fixated on the idea that elan can overcome anything. And the notion that they have to be warriors and anything else is beneath them, hence their complete and utter lack of attacking merchant shipping or properly escorting their own.

If everybody wanted to settle old scores, the Native Americans have every right to murder the descendants of settlers that took their lands away and drove them to reservations. The same applies to Aborigines doing this to white Australians, Maori to white Kiwis, the First Nations to white Canadians, indigenous groups against anyone with so much a drop of Spanish or Portuguese blood in Latin America. 1. "Trust no one" is the cornerstone of China's foreign policy. That's why they teach about the century of humiliation, because to them, no one was China's "friend," just different shades of bad.
2. China entering the korean war could have been entirely avoided if UN troops didn't push all the way to the fucking chinese border. They were supposed to stop but didn't, and MacArthur wanting to nuke the fuck outta china certainly didn't help. Americans didn't understand how important korea was to china as a buffer state back then and apparently not now either, but if they had stopped half way into North Korea, then china wouldn't have entered the war and lives would have been saved. Also, if the chinese didn't step in, then the soviets would have, because they were the ones who were urging Mao to take action, and if they hadn't, then the Soviet-Chinese split would have happened much sooner and that would have meant passing up on a lot of Soviet tech.

Not OP, but I'm Chinese and while I can't speak for the Koreans, it's not butthurt that causes Chinese to hate Japan. It's not about settling old scores, it's the fact that Japan is the most obedient US puppet in the region. Second important is the fact that Japanese still view their neighbors as if it's 1937 despite hiding behind the US 5th Fleet. China wants to establish leadership in the region and Japan is its prime Asian opponent, regardless of what India makes of its own strength. This hypocrisy of Japanese nationalists saying Japan was trying to free Asia from Western imperialism during WWII and their current position of being US lapdogs to the death is just too much even for the typical Japanese liars.

If the Japanese had been serious about "Asia for Asians", they would be helping other Asians achieve this after defeat instead of becoming even more dependent on US assistance than the Chinese Nationalist Party was.

In reality, war between China and Japan would be disastrous for the region. There is no reason to go to war unless China wants to defeat US hegemony. It is an argument based on emotion rather than strategy. If China wants to defeat America, all it has to do is wait for America to defeat itself. There is no need to fight Japan. Japan has long profited from screwing its neighbors over. This time, China can cut off Japan from Asia for good like Napoleon tried with Great Britain. No more exploitation and hypocrisy.
