Are you implying they're any worse than prosecutors? One helps criminals go free or get a light sentence, the other sends innocent people to prison. Either way their job is to argue one side as best they can regardless of the truth.

No. This is a common myth.

Lawyers have a duty to their clients, usually enshrined in statute. This means that they have to be dicks for their client also.

The justice system relies on all parties having independent advocates with expertise in the law.

Actually usually criminal lawyers have quite high moral standards as they hold the principle of a fair defense in high regard. Tax lawyers are way waayyyyyy worse in terms of an absent moral compass

Innocent until proven guilty you twat. Even if all odds and evidence are against someone, they should still be given right to a fair trial and a defense attorney.
