Indonesian here. How relevant are actually the kingdoms or civilization of my country? I'm no history pro, don't accept much from me, i'm just curious. Also general southeast asian history thread.

Well, they're how the Dutch briefly became a superpower.
Other than that, not particularly relevant.

So you were Hindu, then Muslim, then dutch. Now you are my countries shield against China.

Dutch were never a super power
>>2220460
Well, they were a world power for all of about ten seconds.
It's arguable whether there were real superpowers before post-1814 Britain.

As a trading empire, it's actually quite important.

The only thing of note, is that they found oil, which the Japanese promptly took.

Not at all frankly.
The trade in spices was extremely important, but the civilizations themselves didn't really matter much to the rest of the world. It's sort of like those West African kangdoms that had lots of gold but didn't matter otherwise. I do like Southeast Asian history, but they just weren't really that important. No major intellectual, religious, cultural or technological innovations emerged there that spread to other regions of the globe. I don't mean that they didn't have great technology, culture, etc, but what they did develop there didn't become very important on a wider scale outside of Southeast Asia.
