Is the Persian population of central asia virtually non-existent today post mongol invasion?

Yeah they are pretty much confined to a small nation in the mountains, it's quite small so you might not have heard of it. It's called Iran

Tajiks/Afghans are Iranian by definition, though they won't care to admit it nowadays

The Tajiks are Persian speaking to this day, even if ethnically they're descended from Soghdians, not Persians. Still Iranic though.

The displacement of Iranic populations started with Turkic conquests in X-XIth centuries, not the Mongols. And it wasn't generally a genocide, it was more of a gradual intermingling. The Uzbeks are to this day largely mixed Iranic-Turkic. The city and settled farmer populations in isolated areas remained more Iranic, while the rest is Turkic. The forced settlement during Soviet years made it more in favour of Turkics. The populations of Samarqand and Bukhara were largely Iranic until 1920s when the Soviet republics of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took on a national character, so populations were exchanged or assimilated.

Nowadays it's a spectrum of Turkic and Iranic types, most intermixed. But in isolated areas there's still remnant groups of pure eastern Iranic people like Pamiris/Badakhshanis or Yaghnobis.

And by Central Asia I meant the lands that were previously part of the USSR, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan.

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan never really had large settled populations though; the Iranic nomads that lived there in late antiquity either moved away or were assimilated into new Turkic confederations that arose, as is usual with nomads.
