Why the fuck didn't the US put steal nets around their ships. We have documents stating the Japanese were concerned about these nets, even the US briefly thought of doing it, yet they refused.

It wasn't a matter of cost, these nets were cheap as fuck.

I swear the more I read about Pearl Harbor, the more I realize how much of a massive US military fuck up it was.

Also anything Pearl Harbor

what are these steel nets and how are they supposed to prevent a battleship from sinking? Never even heard of them. Please enlighten me.

He may be referring to Torpedo Nets.
I don't think they were made out of 'steal'.

OP confirmed for idiot. Why do idiots always start WW2 threads?
>>
>>2180397

That's not true. Sometimes they start "Sardinia was uninhabited until the age of sail" threads, or "Cuck army threads", or worst of all, Christianity threads.

And it still fucked the nips over more than it did the burgers.

>manage to disable permanently 3 ships
>one was a gunner target, and other 2 were pretty much obsolete outside of shore bombardment
>don't even manage to hit the support infrastructure that would had actual hurt usn

Japanese military competence at its finest.

The nets were rejected because the fleet practiced a lot and the nets were a pain in the ass to move.
A better idea would have been a few barges ballasted down and parked in the way. Easy to move.

You'll not that despite the sense of rigging antitorpedo netting all over, actions against the French and Italians also incountered the same lack. I suspect that netting was both time consuming to place and costly to build and maintain. Early in the war, despite what was shown in WW1, there existed little concern over torpedoes deadliness to battleships. This allowed multiple instances of light aircraft sinking and damaging ships with torpedoes while in port.
