This thread is dedicated to the discussion of the greatests minds from wars around the world from any given period in time.
Post your favorite individuals, discuss your favorite tactics and anything else that is relevant to the matter at hand.
I'll start the thread with one of my favorite persons from one of the most fascinating historical periods from recent history: Erwin Rommel.
If you have an idea of a person that fits the vague criteria I've given who didn't take part in a war of sorts that's fine too, I just imagine proving to be a great tactician or strategist and going down in history would be difficult to achieve in a time of peace.
we don't need supply lines where we're going

Hey, that's pretty good.

Not an historical figure but would've been amazing if he were.

already up for a good start are we
>Like all great plans, my strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it. On my command, all our tanks and planes will line up and file directly into the enemy cannons, clogging them with wreckage!

Name a tactician who held his own longer than Rommel during WWII.
Losing a battle, which happened to be the final one in this case, is not always the sign of infiriority.
what do ya think abou this guy??

Too bad friendly fire killed two of the most skilled confederate generals.

Please, keep you fictional characters out of this. Otherwise we could all sperg about a character we just invented who was brilliant in this world and universe we invented.
>Qu'kil of the goman universe led 10 troops into battle and bested the evil Nexa who had more than 20'000 at his disposal! What a great military leader and tactician!

>picking a Kur'quk meme general
>not the Figerian Admiral Kurr'ak who led one sloop to victory over 10^5 battlecruisers
>>2168961
Except he won through numerous ass-pulls because the plot demanded it.
>muh circles
>>2169006
Except that the series is well writen and the battles make perfect sense. That aside he's regarded as a genius tactician, not a demi-god which results in him making mistakes and losing battles as well, your example thus is moot at best or plain unfair in its balance at worst.

>ass-pulls
While some scenarios were definitely convinient to the progression of the plot (like in most if not all works of fiction) most of them were realistic enough to not ruin the immersion.
>inb4 arguing over the realism of interstellar/galactic battles.
Shame you don't have an appreciation to a well writen plot and characters (however, I'd agree that because of the huge cast some characters appear rather undeveloped in comparison with others in the series).
