If you are in emperor mandated starvation post, you starve until Americans come and blow you up

If you are in China, you get bullied by your superiors and take part in massive combat with the NRA. If you survive, you probably are tense as fuck and take it out on civilians. You will probably die to a guerrilla shooting you, murdered by some peasant with a knife or blown up by an IED. Your supply situation is much better than being on an emperor mandated starvation post and better than the NRA but still unstable because of guerrillas attacking your supply.

If you are in the IJN, you will probably burn to your death when your ship gets hit or you will drown or machinegunned by burgers for your warcrimes in the water.

For a time Japanese sailors were also trained in infantry combat; small arms, ground tactics, and battlefield maneuvers. A ship’s complement could be issued rifles and helmets and sent on missions inland, such was the bitter distrust embedded in the IJN/IJA rivalry.

The IJN eventually created the 'Special Naval Landing Forces', units many equate to 'Japanese marines'. However, unlike the US Marines, they were not independent, nor was their role amphibious assault and the establishment of beachheads, they were simply just naval infantry created so the IJN wouldn't have to cooperate with the Army--the IJN even had their own paratroopers-- though the course of the war eventually forced their collaboration.

You should add this at least three times somewhere in there:

Physical punishment was commonplace at least in the IJA (not so sure about the IJN) during WW2, which in part helped make the IJA soldiers as brutal as they were.

Not only weapons but they failed completely in developing anti sub tactics to stop the American blocksde on their supplies. They got complacent with it and no IJN sailor wanted to waste time doing unhonorable things like protecting convoys and not fighting.

The Satsuma clan that ran the Navy and were competing against the Choshu clain that ran the Army.

Both of these clans along with the Tosa Clan had helped the Emperor in the Meiji Restoration and as a consequence the Satsuma led the Navy, the Choshu led the Army, and the Tosa ran whatever what left which was mainly the government bureaucracy.

Both the Satsuma and the Choshu were constantly competing for influence in Japnanese politics and for the Emperor's favour which is why the rivalry between the IJN and the IJA was so great.

I don't actually know to much about the Japanese military. I have heard that the platoons had to supply their own food and material when they needed something. Is this true?
